Police investigate county line shooting

Police are investigating a domestic violence incident that occurred Friday morning at a location in rural Shannon near the county line. Investigators advise that the public is in no danger as they work to sift through evidence and testimony. 

Patrol officers were dispatched to the rural part of the Shannon community at around 6:30 a.m. following calls to 911 about gunshots. Officers who were first on scene narrowed the location to Buttrum Road, which is the last road in Floyd County off of Ga 140. One man is dead and another is being treated at a local hospital. 

The identities of the victims will not be released until the Floyd County Coroner and medical personnel have made proper notification.

Investigators are asking the public to call police if they observed anything unusual while traveling on Ga 140 or Ga 41 between 5:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m on Friday. Vehicles of interest are a gold HHR and a black Dodge Caravan.
